This is such a lovely, clean and child friendly office. Very professional and welcoming.
Five stars is not enough for Poppy Kids. My son has a fear of dentistry and struggles so much in big part due to having sensory sensitivities. Other pediatrics couldn’t get x rays and said our only option was to sedate him. Poppy Kids were so patient and thorough with him. They were able to get the needed x rays. They continue to do their best and help him through each appointment but never push past his limits. They truly want this to be a positive experience. Everyone is so kind and nurturing. I highly recommend Poppy Kids!
Dr. Aduna and her team are amazing! Everyone on the team is warm and professional. Dr. Aduna has a wonderful bedside manner with both children and parents. We loved our first visit to Poppy’s! They are so welcoming and informative. Our daughter had so much fun with all the books and stuffies they have in the exam room. They were very patient with her during the exam, which can be hard for a 19 month old. They prepared us well for what she would do (crying, which she did) and that it’s very normal. We can’t wait to come back!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Andrea and the team at Poppy Kids Pediatric Dentistry. The attention to detail from beginning to end has felt thoughtful, caring, thorough and professional. Whether scheduling an appointment, being in the chair, talking about care plans, dealing with insurance… I and my kids always have felt important, uniquely seen, and professionally cared for — all at once, which I find unique in healthcare and dentistry. I have three kids, and Dr. Andrea approaches each of them uniquely and takes time to understand them holistically. She is up to date on best practices, which, combined with her hands-on experience with kids over the years, really makes you confident you’re getting the best possible care. I’ve been to other pediatric dentists in Marin and San Francisco, and this is the only one I completely trust AND my kids are excited for!! Definitely recommend.

Great first dentist trip for the kiddos! The whole team was warm and friendly. Dr. Andrea never made us feel rushed and was great showing the kids her dentist outfit and all the tools. When is a good time for a child's first dental visit, and what should we expect?
The AAPD recommends an initial oral evaluation by Age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth. Your child's first visit includes a facility tour, a gentle exam with Dr. Andrea, and time to talk through brushing, flossing, and diet. For children under three, that first appointment is complimentary.
There are dentists in San Rafael. Why drive 12 minutes to a pediatric specialist in Novato?
Because a pediatric specialist's office is built only for kids: the pacing of the appointment, the words we use, kid-sized instruments, movies on the ceiling, and a dentist whose entire training and board certification are in children's dentistry. Dr. Andrea sees every patient herself. From Terra Linda or downtown San Rafael it is a straight run north on US-101 to exit 459, and Pacheco Plaza is right off the ramp with free ground-floor parking.
When should a San Rafael kid be checked for braces, and do you keep seeing them during orthodontics?
Dr. Andrea looks at bite and jaw development at every checkup and will tell you when an orthodontic evaluation makes sense, usually around age 7, when there is a mix of baby and adult teeth. Once a Davidson Middle or Terra Linda High kid is in braces, the cleanings and cavity checks here matter more than ever, because brackets trap plaque and make brushing harder, so we tighten up the hygiene coaching during those years.
We have a kindergartner at Sun Valley Elementary and a teen at San Rafael High. Can they be seen together?
Yes. We care for children from the first tooth through age 18, so ask for back-to-back appointments and make one trip up from San Rafael. Your teen gets a full cleaning and exam, x-rays when they are due, and a look at how the wisdom teeth are coming in. Your kindergartner gets a gentle exam and cleaning sized for a five-year-old, plus a check on how the first adult molars are erupting behind the baby teeth.
What time of day should we book from San Rafael so a young child arrives calm?
Morning. Heading north from San Rafael to Novato on US-101 is against the commute, so the drive is easy, and young children do best when they are rested and have eaten breakfast, with teeth brushed afterward. We open at 8:30 Monday through Thursday. Bring a comfort item, and know that parents are always welcome in the room with Dr. Andrea; many Gerstle Park and Dominican families make the 8:30 slot their standing six-month routine.
